How long does the healing take? Or the pigment to settle?
The first week after your appointment, the color and intensity of the PMU/ Paramedical Tattoo may seem very vibrant and intense. This is normal. After about a week of healing, you should be finishing the scabbing stage (soft/well-moisturized scabs heal best with these procedures) If you have been using your After Care Products as instructed, you should develop a soft scab, after it falls off you may feel the PMU has faded too much. Wait until around day 15-20. Between then and that first week, remaining pigment will become more visible again. Around 6-8 weeks is when the pigment has properly settled to a soft, more natural look. If you notice your tattoo has not com’e back as desired, this could be due to different factors including: exposing the tattooed area too soon to water, sweat, friction, sun exposure, certain skin care products , or just because you may have scar tissue. Scar tissue absorbs pigment differently in just about every person. That is why, when you book with us, we go over expectations and we work through this process together to make sure you come out on the other end with the best possible results. If your tattoo has faded too much within your first 4 weeks, let us know and we will get you in for a touch up. See After Care Instructions for more information.
Why does this type of tattoo fade more than traditional tattoos?
Every tattoo fades overtime, and the same is true for permanent makeup. Here are some reasons why:
Natural Skin Regeneration - The outermost layer, the epidermis, sheds and regenerates approximately every 28 to 40 days. Since PMU pigments are implanted into the dermis but still close to the epidermis, this natural turnover process gradually pushes pigment particles out, leading to fading.
Color of Pigments - Some colors, like lighter shades, tend to break down faster than darker ones.
PMU pigments vs Traditional Tattoo Inks - Permanent Makeup pigments are made from much smaller molecules than traditional tattoo inks are made from. This means that PMU pigments are metabolised by the body easier, making them fade and shrink after a length of time in the skin, becoming less intense.
Fading, in fact, is a welcomed outcome with PMU. The face ages, and as it does, our makeup needs to change. Permanent makeup fading ensures there’s room to adapt and add more color over time, a process designed to work in harmony with your changing face. The face skin is always exposed, and cellular turnover, a process where old cells are replaced by new ones, significantly
